Trust in Me by Lori Toland is a short and sexy romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Reunion romances are one of my favorites in this genre and this book gave me everything I love reading in a romance. Ms. Toland writes sexy, interesting and beautifully flawed characters and I always find myself hopelessly adoring them. Her stories are always creative and fast-paced and I know once I start reading them, I'm going to have to continue reading it non-stop until I reach the very end.
Tristan Winters has worked hard to be successful in his career. He owns half of TPI, which is a cooperation that sets up lighting and other things for big conventions. When his head tech breaks his hand, Tristan must fly out of state to supervise and take over the lighting for the National Free Clinic's convention. Although, Tristan doesn't like it, he begrudgingly cancels all of his own plans to keep things running smoothly at the convention.
Once he's at the hotel, Tristan is shocked to run into Jamie Hunter whom he hasn't seen in over ten years. Jamie is now, Dr. Jamie Hunter, and he is Tristan's first love. Tristan hasn't ever forgotten the amazing night he had with Jamie, nor has he forgotten how hurt and lost he had felt when Jamie walked out of his life without an explanation or a cross word between them. Seeing Jamie looking so breathtakingly handsome and successful gives the bitter Tristan mixed feelings. And, as the two men keep running into each other, they begin to feel the magnetic pull from the attraction and unrequited love they had between them so many years ago. But, will Tristan be able to trust Jamie, or will old hurts and bitter feelings keep them apart?
I loved this book! It's strictly told under Tristan's point of view, and quite frankly, I really liked his voice. There are also some flashbacks of Tristan and Jamie together ten years before, and it was very interesting to see how much Tristan had grown as a characters. He was eighteen when he and Jamie fell in love, and his voice at eighteen was much different than it was at twenty-eight. As a reader, I could see how much Tristan matured and became his own person and I really appreciated how much he evolved as an adult character. Tristan is smart, charismatic, and sexy and was generally an interesting character to get to know.
I also liked Jamie. His determination to be a doctor instead of what everyone else wanted him to be made him a very noble hero. I understood why he left Tristan like he did, but I couldn't help but wish that he and Tristan would have communicated instead of allowing fear and a big misunderstand stand in-between them and their happiness. But, as Tristan comes to realize as the novel progresses, maybe they NEEDED to be apart to become who they were ten years later. Maybe it would make them appreciate what they have so much more now that they now what it's like to be apart.
If you are looking for a quick and sexy story Trust in Me will really fit the bill. My only gripe is I hated to see the book come to an end. I really loved the characters in the book and would love to revisit them again several years later.
Tristan Winter's day takes a turn for the worse when his best employee calls in sick. As the only other technical specialist able to step in on such short notice, he takes over what seems like a run of the mill job -- until he runs into his old crush from high school, Jamie Hunter. Ten years after a summer fling left him with a broken heart, Tristan now has a different view of life and love but this time around, will he push away the only man he ever cared about?
