Western Night

Doms of Dark Haven 2

Once again three awesome authors, Sierra Cartwright, Belinda McBride and Cherise Sinclair, take their readers back to the BDSM club Dark Haven for another fun filled theme night. This time the theme is western night and while most guests are in costume a few subs might need to watch out for the real deal.

Selby doesn't live in the San Francisco area but she does fly out a few times a year to participate in her BDSM fetish with her good friend and Dom David. The problem is, David isn't that strict with his subs and Selby takes advantage of this. While David plays poker with Master Trevor, Shelby looks around and wiggles, a lot. Eventually Selby gets added to the pot and she's not sure if she should be thrilled or not. A week with Master Trevor has her exited but she doesn't want to hurt David's feelings. In A Good sub Would, Selby will be spending a week with Master Trevor learning how to behave. She can't wait!

The last time Ms Cartwright took us to Dark Haven, she used characters from a series that she was already writing and it was apparent. This time, her characters felt fresh and new. They didn't seem attached to any other book and this gave them interest. All of the characters, David, Shelby and Trevor, were very well done. Each had a personality, a history and a life. Their interconnected relationships made this story believable. As an added plus, there were a couple of aspects to the lifestyle which were brought out. One, not all Doms have the same style or way to control their subs. The other, some of the things that are done just plain hurt unless tempered with something else.

Ms McBride brings back her Truckee pack in Hunting Holly. Tex, Hunter, Ethan and Kurt have come to Dark Haven after the owner, Xavier, called about needing them to check someone out. What they find is a young boy who is definitely some kind of shifter, though not wolf. Ethan and Kurt take charge of the boy after Tex and Hunter catch the scent of Holly, a wolf both love but who left the pack about a year ago. Neither is willing to just leave without finding her but Holly has no problems leading the two on a chase. Even if they catch her, there might still be problems as Holly as identified both of them as her mates. Can the guys share? And, there are others who have set up a trap for the three of them. If they aren't careful, they might not even be able to explore this new relationship.

While these characters belong in a series, they are fun and interesting by themselves. Ms McBride's world includes things like shifters, vampires and an organization that experiments on them. While you don't get a full feeling of this world through this novella, you do get enough of a taste to figure out that this Truckee pack can kick some butt! As in the first story, this one gives you another aspect of BDSM. Holly is introduced as a Domme yet Tex and Hunter aren't going to let her back into that role with them. Holly learns that in certain instances she can be a good sub but in others she likes to take control. Tex and Hunter have to learn how to work together to make their part of the relationship work. With Hunter not liking to be touched, it could prove to be a touchy problem!

Virgil Masterson is a cop. He shouldn't like to hurt anyone, much less a woman. So, why is he at Dark Haven? Virgil learned about BDSM when his cousin married someone who lives it. After trying some play, he found that he likes some aspects of it but can't really experiment in the small town he lives and works in. He's not sure Dark Haven is the right place but right now, it's the only place. He doesn't plan on playing but plans on watching. That is until he sees Summer Aragon. Summer was abused by a Dom at a private party about a year ago. Now, she doesn't play except in public and usually only with Doms she knows won't push her. She doesn't plan on playing tonight after her friend left but the calf roping just looks too good to pass up. She's sure that Xavier won't pair her with anyone she can't deal with. When she's paired with Virgil who is big and strong and everything that scares her, she's not too sure. In Welcome to the Dark Side, Virgil and Summer will push themselves out of their comfort zones but will they be able to stay there?

Virgil and Summer are characters from previous stories. Those stories are mentioned in this one but their story isn't based on either. These characters are special and unique. They bring even more dimension to the BDSM scene. Virgil has been brought up to never hit a woman or cause her harm yet he finds that for some women this turns them on. He's having a hard time adjusting his attitude but there are just some things he's not even interested in trying and others he's just not comfortable with like playing in public. Summer thought she knew the Dom she was playing with when he went way too far and she has the scars to prove it. She's scared to go anywhere private with anyone and only feels secure when playing in public where she can be seen. Not everyone enjoys every aspect of BDSM and this story highlights that.

Though each story in this book is as unique as its author, there is a common thread, besides being western night at Dark Haven. Each sub has a safe word and knows to use it. All scenes are discussed prior to being acted out. There are hard no items which must be honored. Safe, sane and consensual is the rule and this rule should be followed.

I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting Dark Haven.

This western night was as much fun as the previous book's Victorian night. If you read each story, not only does the theme come through with each of them but glimpses from the other stories make appearances. After all, the club is only so big so bumping into someone from another story or seeing the same poker game isn't unusual. That each author needed to plan with the others is obvious and makes each story even more realistic.

The other aspect that I found great was showing the different facets of BDSM. It's not the same for everyone and not everyone enjoys every aspect. The way each story was written gives a depth to this life style that not everyone might have noticed.

I have to say that these three stories have it all, great characters, hot sex and an actual story. You can really ask for anything more, except for when it the next book coming out?

Book Blurb for Western Night

A Good sub Would... by Sierra Cartwright

Genre: BDSM Erotic Contemporary

Shelby, a wanna-be sub, hasn’t found a Dom strong enough to push past her need to be in control. Her experiences as a sub have been yawn-inducing. She’s fantasized plenty, though, about Trevor Lawton, one of Dark Haven’s legendary, mouthwateringly firm Doms.

As the stakes get higher at the charity poker match, Dom Trevor Lawton is fascinated by the woman kneeling across the table from him. Problem is, she’s not a good sub. Oh, she tries, and she’s lovely. But she’s not very good at following orders. The woman needs a firm, unyielding hand...his.

Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair

Genre: BDSM Erotic Contemporary

Related Titles: Master of the Mountain; Master of the Abyss; Simon Says: Mine, part of the Doms of Dark Haven anthology

Real Doms terrify her, so Summer plays with lightweights only. And only in the safety of her club, Dark Haven. But on Western Night, the tough cop who wins her in a sub-roping game is as powerful as they come.

Virgil's first taste of BDSM was disturbingly enticing. Hoping to burn out his interest, he visits an infamous San Francisco club, where he wins himself the prettiest little sub he’s ever seen. He’s in a quandary. A man shouldn’t render a woman helpless, let alone spank her ass. But the nervous little submissive clearly loves being in his ropes. Her need to be controlled is as powerful as his need to control. So he indulges himself, and her.

That one night could be the beginning, but instead it's the end. She won't play outside the club and he lives too far to come play. He'll just have to find a way to forget her...or get her in his ropes to stay.

Publisher's Note: All of the stories within this anthology contain explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: strong BDSM theme and elements (including/not limited to: bondage and spanking).
