Airicka Phoenix On Love & Grace and Dyslexia - Charitable Boxed Set
HELLO DARLINGS ... and welcome to my little corner of the literary world. If you're reading this, it most likely means that the creatures under my bed have finally captured me and now I'm living as their dark queen in a chocolate castle. Please don't send help ... unless it's Jensen Ackles or Tom Hiddleston ... or both. I'm willing to be persuaded. Now that I have properly tossed aside my modesty with a sprinkle of my sanity, let's get to the really important things, shall we?
Yes, yes, Tom, it really is, but let's talk about Austin and Kaylee, the duo in my contribution piece——Letters To Rachel. I also want to talk about the cupcakes that inspired our lovely couple and their story. Oh! Did I not mention cupcakes?!
That got your attention, huh? *evil snicker inserted here*
I'm going to fully admit here that I have zero experience with dyslexia. What I did know was that people diagnosed with the disorder saw letters and words backwards. It wasn't until I read the foreword written by Sherrilyn Kenyon that I really understood what it meant. Dyslexia is so much worse than just a few jumbled letters. As an author, I couldn't imagine not being able to process the words I was putting down. I can't even begin to fathom how it must be for children, especially those too young to understand why they can't see things like everyone else. That's why I think supporting schools like GRACEPOINT is so crucial. It's not about fixing children to see what everyone else sees. It's about helping them understand and cope with something that is out of their control. Kaylee, our leading lady, has dyslexia, but she doesn't let it stop her from writing daily letters to her sister Rachel who she has and hasn't seen in two years. Letters to Rachel is a story of love, loss, and the power of living when all hope is lost.
I loved getting into Kaylee's head. She's such a sweet girl forgotten by the world around her. I loved watching as she learns to stand for herself and allows herself to fall for the boy with the guitar. Austin is so great for her. He's one of those honest to goodness good guys with a heart of gold, and he's so perfect for our Kaylee. The idea for Letters To Rachel came to me while I was scrolling through Pinterest (I am so addicted!). My girls and I were trying to find a good cupcake recipe to try and we came across one that sounded delicious (and looked it, judging from the picture). It was during the blending step when Kaylee danced into my head. I wrote the outline that very night. It has honestly been an amazing experience working with the other authors in the boxset. They're all so talented and their stories will definitely awe and inspire. I highly recommend grabbing yourself a copy while it's still only $0.99! I have it on good authority that that price will be going up after the pre order ends Aug 31. And, while you're losing yourself in the pages, toss together a batch of these cupcakes.

http://thenymelrosefamily.com/[/caption] Does that look too good to be true? Believe me, we had to make a second batch after the first and I had to book six more hours with my trainer ... or at least, I would have if I had one. Nevertheless, get your copy of LOVE & GRACE and nibble on cupcakes. You'll thank me! Thank you all for joining me and a HUGE thank you to the lovelies at OWL NIGHT REVIEWS for allowing me to grace their gorgeous page!
