A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: JulieS
Dark Solace is a dark short story about star-crossed lovers who’ve waited hundreds of years to be together. Their history and pain of being separated was explained very well, giving me a very good sense of the characters. Although there were a couple of spots where I felt an echo as some information was repeated, but not enough to overshadow the tender story unfolding.
Ms. Stanton’s writing style flows smoothly across the page and made this short novelette an easy read. The entire time I was reading it I couldn’t imagine how it would end. I’m happy to report I was satisfied with the realistic outcome. After this insight into Ms. Stanton’s style, I look forward to reading more by her.

Book Blurb for Dark Solace
Three hundred years can change many things, but love is not among them.
Forbidden to claim the woman he loves as his mate, Gabriel established a yearly meet with Jael to satisfy their hunger for one another. Time has not weathered their need, or made the pain of every other day more bearable. Christmas Eve together might not be much, but pretending for one night that they can belong together is the only way either knows how to survive.
Except this Christmas, Gabriel can't go on pretending. Living for one night is no way to live, and he is determined that he and Jael will see the new day together. The only question is, after all this time, is she prepared for the consequences of saying yes?
