Carrie has worked for Marcus for a decade. She knows the good, the bad, and the really really bad. She’s been there for him through it all and just can’t take being near him any more without him seeing her as a desirable woman. When she resigns to make a clean break he counteroffers, using her contract to force her hand. What will one weekend together solve? Marcus is a dom who’s been through the ringer. His first marriage was a lie from the start. His wife just tolerated his proclivities for the money and prestige he could bring her. After that fiasco he resigned himself to a life lived alone, with sexual interludes along the way, but even that's getting old. When his trusty assistant resigns he shows signs of life and decides to fight for “his” woman. This was a read well worth your time. Marcus is a man of means but no personal direction after his divorce laid his private life out for the world to examine and ridicule. Carrie is a woman he trusts and secretly desires but never makes a move on until he has no choice. Of course she returns his affections but never crosses the line. What starts as a clean break is really the catalyst they both needed to move their relationship from the boardroom to the bedroom. Marcus is all about proving how much Carrie doesn’t mean to him while actually doing the opposite. Carrie’s mission is to purge her desire for Marcus over the course of the weekend. Both fail miserably. It may have taken them a decade to realize it but they are perfect for one another in all aspects personal, professional and private. With a traditional romantic ending with a sexy and unexpected twist this was a story full of emotion and personal internal psychological warfare. The first book in a series, this is the second edition of this book and I personally prefer it to the original release. The balance of power feels more natural in this version.
